Access Services

Access Services includes Circulation, Reserves, and Stacks Maintenance. These areas assist patrons with all procedures related to checking out and returning books, paying fines, billing for overdue, lost, or damaged material, searching for missing books and recalling books. We also process, maintain, check out, and check in reserve material and perform the shelving in the browsing collection and in the Main collection on the 3rd and 4th floors.

We strive to provide students and faculty, both on and off campus, staff and community residents with services that are effective, efficient, and courteous.

Circulation

The Newton Gresham Library's Circulation Department manages the loaning of library materials to patrons. Read the library's circulation policies.

Course Reserves

The Library Service Desk is the place to request any materials places on course reserves by instructors. Reserve Materials include books, journal articles, class notes and tests that SHSU Instructors put on Reserve. Learn more about accessing and requesting course reserves.

Stacks Maintenance

Stacks Maintenance is responsible for sorting and reshelving books and bound journals. The Stacks Maintenance Office is located on the 3rd Floor and is where Main Collection Materials (books and bound journals) go to be sorted and arranged before they get reshelved by the Student Worker in the Library. We ask that you not reshelve your own books, as Library staff provide that service to ensure accuracy. If you are unable to find a book or journal on the shelf, the book may be waiting in this office to be reshelved. You may ask at the Library Service Desk for assistance with searching for an item in this office.
