Study Spaces for 1-3 People

Individual Study Desks (freely available)

Freely available for individual use throughout the 3rd and 4th floors, which are designated as quiet floors.

Private Study Carrels (Study Rooms) for 1 - 3 People (checkout required)

  • Carrels accommodate between 1 and 3 people.
  • Carrels include whiteboards (request markers/erasers at the Library Service Desk when you request a room)
  • Need a computer? You can bring your own or borrow one from us.
  • May be checked out at the Library Service Desk on the 2nd floor.
  • An SHSU I.D. is required in order to check out a study carrel.
  • Available on a first-come, first-served basis (there are no reservations).
  • Checkout period is 2 hours and cannot be renewed. A carrel cannot be checked out by the same student (or other members of the same group) until an hour has passed. This policy ensures that the rooms are available for the greatest number of students.
  • Questions should be directed to the Library Service Desk at (936) 294-1618.

Group Study Spaces for Up to 20 People

The 2nd floor is not designated as a quiet floor; it is a good space for group work.

Group work is allowed at the computer workstations in the 2nd floor Reference section. Get more information about computer workstations in the library.

Group study tables are scattered throughout the 2nd floor and are freely available for use.

Group Work Space for Up to 10 People (freely available)

A student group works together in NGL Room 141.
  • In Room 141 (Copy Services).
  • May be used by up to 10 people.
  • Freely available for walk-in use without I.D. or checkout required (no reservations).
  • Includes a large white board (request markers/eraser at the Library Service Desk on the 2nd floor), 10 chairs, a collaboration table with large monitor (seats about 7 people; connect a laptop to the monitor), and an additional small table.
  • Need a computer? You can bring your own or borrow one from us.

Group Collaboration Tables

The Library's Collaboration Tables allow you to connect a laptop to a large-screen monitor to share your screen on a larger scale. This is an excellent tool for groups who need to work together while viewing or editing files and web pages. Learn more about Group Collaboration Tables

Group Study

Group Conference Rooms for 4 to 20 People (checkout required)

  • Two rooms available on the 3rd floor (NGL 307 and NGL 308).
  • May be used for groups of between 4 and 20 people.
  • At least 4 people must be physically present to checkout a key.
  • Include white board and chalkboard options (chalk in room; request whiteboard markers/eraser at the Library Service Desk when you request a room).
  • Need a computer? You can bring your own or borrow one from us.
  • May occasionally be used for a scheduled class meeting; otherwise, they are available on a first-come, first-served basis (no student reservations).
  • May be checked out at the Library Service Desk on the 2nd floor.
  • An SHSU I.D. is required in order to check out a conference room.
  • Checkout period is 2 hours and cannot be renewed. Conference rooms cannot be checked out by other members of the same group until an hour has passed. This policy ensures that the rooms are available for the greatest number of students.
