Subject-Specific Search Engines

The American History Search Engine

The American History Search Engine (powered by Google Custom Search) was designed by the History bibliographer at the Newton Gresham Library to search only high-quality, authoritative Web sites that support the study of American History. The goal is to help students find librarian-reviewed Internet content, especially primary source material.

The American History Search Engine aims to cover a variety of topics and time periods, ranging from early exploration to modern day. The sites focus largely on digital collections and exhibits published on the Web by universities, museums, government agencies, and historical organizations.

All sites searched by this tool have been indexed alphabetically and by topic. This list will be organic, with sites being added and removed over time as appropriate. To recommend a site, please contact Erin Dorris at eed001@shsu.edu.

Disclaimers: The library is not responsible for the content of the selected sites.
No endorsement is given to additional sites which may be linked to by the selected sites.
It is the student's responsibility to accurately cite any online materials used in their research papers or projects.
