| The second part of a LC call number is called the cutter. It is used to identify a specific book. We won't discuss the cutter here, except to say that cutters begin with a letter and are alphanumeric. The (.) that begins a cutter is a decimal point. So, the order of the books on the shelf is determined by the letter number combinations. More exact discussion of the call numbers follow. | |
