Understanding Call Numbers
Introduction For those who are just beginning to do work in the Library or those wishing to understand the Library's call number systems, this tutorial will provide information about the organization of material and an explanation of the call numbers used. The classification systems used in this Library are the Library of Congress (LC), the Dewey Decimal (DDC), and the Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) Classification Systems. Upon completion of this tutorial you will be able to locate specific call numbers using any of these Classification Systems. The tutorial consists of seven units; each contains several pages of information and concludes with a quiz. Pass each of the seven quizzes and receive a printed certificate verifying that you have successfully completed the tutorial. Please allow 45 minutes to an hour to complete the tutorial. Each module must be completed sequentially at one time. You cannot go forward to the next module until you have passed the current module’s quiz. |
